Dinosaur-era bird fossil found with unlaid egg dating back abo

A group of scientists in Gansu province have discovered a fossilized b

ird dating back about 110 million years and the first ever to have an unlaid egg in its abdomen.

The fossil represents a new species, Avimaia schweitzerae, belonging to a group called the Enantiornithes, which was a

bundant around the world and coexisted with dinosaurs in the Cretaceous period.

The well preserved fossil was discovered in the city of Yumen.

Because the specimen was crushed flat, it was only after a small fragment was extracted and analyzed under a micro

scope that the research team at the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Pal

eoanthropology realized the unusual tissue was an egg, said Alida Bailleul, the lead author of the article.

percent of minors have internet accessChina had 169 million min

netizens in 2018 and the internet penetration rate was 93.7 percent, according to a report published on Tuesday.

The report was jointly published by the youth rights and interests protection departme

nt of the Communist Youth League of China Central Committee and the China Internet Network Information Center.

Minor netizens covered by the report are students at different levels under 18 years, but not including children under 6 years and non-student youths.

According to the report, 92 percent of minor netizens use mobile phones for internet ac

cess, and the percentages of minors using other devices for internet access are all less than 50 percent.

The report shows that 77.6 percent of minor netizens have their own internet access devices, and 69.7 percent have mobi

le phones. Data shows 52.2 percent connected to the internet less than one hour a day, and 24.2 percent between 1 and 2 hours.

Up to 87.4 percent use the internet for study, 68.1 percent listen to mus

ic and 64.2 percent play games for major leisure and recreational activities on the intern

et. Chatting online is the major communication activity for 58.9 percent, and 40.5 percent use short video apps, according to the report.

A total of 36 IC-related companies received funding, up

percent from the first half of 2018, and three of them each obtained more than $100 million in investment. Cloud computi

ng, artificial intelligence, robotics, and virtual reality also were hot spots that lured investment during the period,” Ni said.

Ni added although the technology industry is rapidly expanding under favorable polic

es, internet and mobile internet are still the attractive sectors in the TMT industry. Internet finance, ian

ternet-based education, fragmented entertainment and content sharing were hotly pursued by investors.

“The setup of the science and technology innovation board will improv

I would have done it much differently. I actually told

Theresa May how to do it, but she didn’t listen to me,” Trump told the tabloid. “The deal she is striking is a much different deal than the one people voted on.”

Trump apologized in private to May, one of the rare times he‘s admitted wrong. And tho

ugh he’s expressed a desire to remain diplomatically impartial — “I think we will stay right in our lane,” he sa

id last week when questioned about Brexit — he has nevertheless bemoaned May’s handling of the issue over and over.

”I’m surprised at how badly it’s all gone from the standpoint of a negotiation,” he said in the Oval Office last week, mome

nts after suggesting he wouldn’t offer an opinion on the issue. “I gave the prime minister my ideas on how to n

egotiate it. And I think you would’ve been successful. She didn’t listen to that, and that’s fine.”

A few weeks before, Trump spoke briefly with one of the UK’s most visible pro-Brexit campaig

ners, Nigel Farage, on the sidelines of a conservative conference outside Washington. And he’s ma

intained close ties to the hardline conservatives who have bemoaned May’s handling of the matter.

Trump wasn’t alone in his criticism. Two of his top confidants — son Donald Trump Jr. and national security adviser John

Bolton — both offered critical views this week of May and her plan to try and delay Britain’s exit from Europe.

UN court increases Karadzic’s genocide sentence to

Former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic’s sentence for genocide has been increas

ed by appeal judges at a UN court in the Hague, Netherlands, from 40 years to life imprisonment.

In 2016 the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia sentenced Kar

adzic to 40 years in prison for genocide over the 1995 Srebrenica massacre — in which more than 7,000 Bos

nian Muslim men and boys were executed by Bosnian Serb forces under his command — as well as other crimes such as persecu

tion, extermination, murder, deportation, inhumane acts, terror, unlawful attacks on civilians, and hostage-taking.

On Wednesday Judge Vagn Joensen said the original 40-year sentence did not reflect the “gravity” of Kar

adzic’s crimes, and “his responsibility for the largest and gravest set of crimes ever attributed to a single person at the ICTY.”

New Zealanders have rallied around their fellow citizens in the

wake of the Christchurch tragedy, laying flowers and messages of support on the side of Hagley Park, close to the Al Noor mosque.

A makeshift memorial grew in the center of the main street, below traffic lights that flashed orange to indicate roads leading to the mosque were closed.

No one was allowed to approach the building, not even local home owner Sue Harrison, whose c

ar was still parked in the driveway of her property behind the Deans Avenue mosque.

Christchurch resident Sue Harrison heard the gunshots from her house, near to the Al

Noor mosque, and called the police. Her son Zin (right) called her to check she was alright.

She remembers listening to the soothing chant of afternoo

n prayers when it was broken by gunshots. Harrison called the police and hid inside her

house as the gunman worked his way through the mosque, shooting as many people as he could.

”The time the shots were happening, it was terrifying, absolutely terrifying,” Har

rison said. “There was almost an immediate feeling that they’re being targeted.”

We don’t know” what Kim will decide to do in the future and

that any decision to resume such testing may “very much be his decision, and his decision alone,” Biegun said. He also noted that Trump has “made clear” how disap

pointed he would be if testing resumed. A senior US defense official told CNN Monday that the commercial sate

llite imagery doesn’t show anything that raises imminent alarm for the US at this time.

North Korea acknowledged for the first time last Friday that the Hanoi summit ended “unexp

ectedly without an agreement.” Despite previously painting the Trump-Kim summit in Vietnam in a posi

tive light, state news agency KCNA said the meeting hadn’t gone as well as expected.

The US had hoped the summit would demonstrate the success of Trump’s diplomatic gamble with North Korea, but instead

the meeting ended with no joint agreement, after Kim demanded all US sanctions be lifted on his country.

”Sometimes you have to walk,” Trump said during a news conference followin

g the conclusion of the talks, which broke up earlier than planned. “This was just one of those times.”

CNN’s Jamie Crawford and Barbara Starr contributed to this report.

His critics say that the key to his success was the

ng of nationalist tendencies and fears, which garner support with the country’s Hindu m

ajority. He also pushed a narrative of economic renewal, promising to generate jobs for India’s you

ng people — something that helped him appeal to voters beyond the Hindu right wing.

”The Prime Minister has cultivated this image of being a strong and decisive leader…When you cultivate an image, you have to

show you are doing something and feeding that narrative,” Salman Anees Soz, a member of India’s main op

position Congress party and author of the forthcoming book “The Great Disappointment: How Narendra Mo

di Squandered a Unique Opportunity to Transform the Indian Economy,” told CNN.

The 68-year-old’s popularity stems in large part from his reputation as a tough, “can-do” ad

ministrator, the man with a vision to elevate India as a powerful global economy.

The country’s annual rate of growth slumped in December and the weakest performance in more than a year.

India is still the world’s fastest growing major economy but analysts say that won’t matter to voters who feel the

y’re not reaping the benefits of India’s relatively strong growth — especially among the country’s youth.

said it wanted to capture the on-court tantrum of Ms

Williams using satire, caricature, exaggeration and humor, and the

cartoon intended to depict her behavior as childish by showing her spitting a

pacifier out while she jumps up and down.”

  Widely criticized

The cartoon showed Williams with large, exaggerated lips and nose reminiscent of racist depictions of black people in the US during the Jim Crow era.

Williams’ opponent, Japan’s Naomi Osaka, is depicted as a skinny blonde woman, to whom the umpire is saying: “Can’t you just let her win?”

The Japanese-American Osaka is of mixed heritage, and has Japanese and Haitian roots.

”Specifically, concern was expressed that the cartoon depicted Ms Willia

ms with large lips, a broad flat nose, a wild afro-styled ponytail hairstyle different to th

at worn by Ms. Williams during the match, and positioned in an ape-like pose,” said a statement from the press council.

”It was also noted that the cartoon should be considered in the context of the histo

ry of caricatures based on race and historical racist depictions of African-Americans.”

’Repugnant’When it was first published, the US-based National Association of Black Journalists said the cartoon was “repugnant on many levels.”

Venezuelan troops defect at the border with Colombia

Three members of the Venezuelan National Guard defected Saturday at Venezuela’s border with Colombia, the Colombian immigration department said.

The troops abandoned their posts at the Simon Bolivar International Bridge on the Colom

bia-Venezuela border and requested help from Colombia’s immigration officials.

Also Saturday, soldiers with Venezuela’s National Guard

fired tear gas and rubber bullets at protesters who were demanding to cross the border at Ur

eña into Colombia to work, according to a CNN crew that witnessed the scene at the Tienditas Bridge.

Workers faced off with the soldiers, chanting, “We want to work!” before being disperse

d by the tear gas. Men with shirts covering their faces started throwing rocks toward the guard.

US argues momentum for change in Venezuela is growing despite border violence

These tense scenes played out Saturday, a day after violence broke out at a Venezuelan town near the border wit

h Brazil over aid delivery, leaving two people dead and 17 others injured, local authorities said.

Tensions are running high at Venezuela’s borders amid opposition plans to usher aid into the country this weekend

in defiance of President Nicolas Maduro’s wishes. Maduro called on Venezuelans to “mobilize” Saturday. “Let’s

all take to the streets to defend our independence with conscience and joy,” Maduro said on his official Twitter account.
